Since 2021 + and counting
I’ve been flying drones and capturing content since 2021.
Why?
It’s a hobby – I love it!
Many years ago I learnt to fly helicopters, yet was always conscious of the dangers and threat to life when flying in the sky. The drone offers feet on the ground safety, similar visuals, without risk of life. In addition, a drone can access places such as cliffs, and other mountainous zones that no human can, and that fascinates me. I also like looking at anything symmetrical and the drone can capture that too, so many if not all of my shots have something to do with nature, or symmetry about them.
Things I don’t drone are people, as this for me this is a no, no. Privacy I whole heartedly respect and adhere to, resistance and confrontations just come with the territory.
I cannot convey the lengths that I go to and changes I have to make in order to obtain shots without people, or being challenged by people, as more often than not it’s the general public that present a the biggest challenge for me.
Over the years this has become more and more problematic regardless of adhering to privacy laws, droning in wide open spaces, being a professionally qualified UAV pilot, being fully insured and obtaining all appropriate country and local licenses/permits, I still face confrontations. Yet the same people who push me over, assault or have me arrested are perhaps the ones most likely to at a piece of film, documentary and say – Lovely shots. At least I hope so :-)
