My Story
“I’m An Amateur”
I recall the 90’s very well – My first computer, mobile phone, and first digital camera – I LoVed it, and even though they were nowhere near today’s standards, i loved this new emergence.
What really got me started was Christmas 1999 when my own father bought me a Sony Handycam (camcorder).
Even though this was pre Youtube days, this was my first step into the world of amateur filming. Back then people like me were referred to not as “content creators’, but were called “videographers” and they were looked upon like stamp collectors, i.e. Nerds.
However, 5 years on and fully digital cameras, digital video-recorders, and of course “the iphone” and Youtube (2005 on) all became available.
Then come improvements, better cameras, higher resolutions, stabilisation/gimbals, etc etc.
Then come drones and here we are today as much of my content is now shot on drones. Today I have an array of UAV’s, mainly DJI, and being fortunate enough to travel, I tend to take a drone wherever I go.
That said, here we are in the year 2025, and using a drone to capture beautiful and sometime inaccessible content has become increasingly challenging. Irrespective of being fully qualified to A2 CofC and GVC standards, and being fully internationally insured, and acquiring all appropriate individual country flight permits – flying a drone is often challenging and frowned upon.
One day I will write out the challenges faced, the arrests and assaults encountered ,,,, in the meantime, download, use, enjoy the content as some of it may never be captured again.
Thank you for reading
